So the break is over and we have actually started writing new songs. Well actually we wrote 1 song, but it's a start. the twins and I got together on Sunday to try and get inspired. We started by tanning. After realizing that might not help us birth a song we moved in and got started. And it took awhile. When you haven't done been writing for a long time it's hard. We talked about the worry that maybe we couldn't do it anymore, and what if we can what should it sound like. But then Claire started playing a bass line she had been playing with and I had some lyrics and a little bit of melody that I'd been working on and we melted them together. And a brand new baby song was born.
Yesterday we brought the song to the boys and started looking at tempos and structures a bit more. At this point I can say that the song is about 75% finished. We love the chorus and bridge but we feel like the verses need some maturing. The song is gonna be called pretty dress and has a bluesy, rocky feel to it. i think you'll like it.
At this point we have 4 new songs, and we need about 10 more which means we need to work our asses off for the next 7 weeks. But we perform the best under pressure.
I'm about to start a brand new job and head off to next week Lollapalooze. It will be my first time at a massive music festival and my first time in Chicago. I can't freakin wait. My hopes are that I'm going to come back and we bursting with musical inspiration and ideas. I also start the new job the day after I get back so this week is all about organization and laundry.
This weekend is my annual family camping trip which I love. This year my crazy aunt and uncle are coming and they always make a party. So it should be a great lead up to the Lolla.
Hope your all doing well.

little rant
So today the potential for this blog to turn into a rant is huge and in light of what the subject is, I'm going to try really hard not to name names or put anyone down.
Today's blog is dedicated to all the fuckin assholes in the Calgary scene that seem to think the only way to build themselves up is to shut others down.
We're not in a band so we can be famous rockstars, we're in a band cause we love writing and playing music together. We love the shows and the crowds and we love that we always get great excuses to dress and act silly and sassy.
Absolutely we take a lot of shit seriously. It's important to all of us that we are respected and well thought of. But even if everyone in the whole Calgary scene thought we were a joke we'd still do what we do. There are many people that we respect a ton and seek guidance and feedback from. We often use these people as sounding boards for new ideas and new songs. But if your not one of those people and are just someone that has the need to make people feel like shit please sit the fuck down. And unless you have something productive or helpful to say please also shut the hell up.
To us this is fun and we aren't always gonna sing the right key or play the right note or have perfect tempo, but so what? If we were perfect all the time we'd have no way of getting better and if something isn't growing then it's likely dying.
Now that I've got that out, I can tell you all that the twins and I are super excited to be heading down the The Misfits show tonight to watch DecoyDecoy open the show. What does one even wear to a Misfits show? I mean other then facemasks and facepaint.

Day one of blogging!
So today I have decided to start writing a blog. Not for any particle reason. Mostly because I read a bunch of blogs and love them.
I read two types of blogs, musicians and celebrity gossip. So I figure my blog will be a mixture of the two.
I'm at work today. I work for an HR firm that does departures. Which basically means we help lay people off and then help the people get new jobs. I know it sounds horrible, but it's actually pretty cool. I however work in the search department. Our job is to work with different companies that are hiring and get them hard to find candidates. It can be really fun, but it can also be boring and tedious. However I've made the decision that sometimes you have to do work that is tedious in order to spend your spare time doing something you love. And I get to do that. Aside from working at the funeral home of the HR world, I'm also in an amazeballs rock band. We're called The Dirty Girl Social Club and we're awesome, if I do say so myself :)
Our band has been together for two years and we have so much fun. We're kind of like the old ladies of pop rock in Calgary. I'm also in a great relationship with a great guy who happens to be the most unbelievable guitar player I've ever seen. He also plays in my band, but more because I make him. Although I do think it is growing on him.
So that's the basics. I guess it's a good start to provide back ground.
Sputter at you later!
